Last night, I attended one of the coolest and most original events I’ve ever seen Durham put on. It was called “UnCompany” and it was a holiday party thrown for and by freelancers. Hosted by Freelance Margaret, Maari Casey, Pretty Fab PR, and MoMe Digital, and sponsored by a host of Durham familiars, UnCompany allowed those of us not under a company wing to still boogie like a boss and throw back some drinks with our fellow self-employed professionals. A brilliant idea, and one that could only be born in a community as amazing as Durham.
I thought about giving my camera a night off, but then decided that I so rarely take photos for my own pleasure and edification these days that UnCompany would be the perfect opportunity to have some fun with my camera with no pressure to perform for a client! I limited myself to no flash and one lens (my 35mm 2.0 fixed), so the results are a bit of a stylistic departure from my norm, but I must say I had a blast shooting the many happy faces at UnCompany. Thanks for being such great subjects and such great conversationalists, my fellow freelancers!
And now, without further ado, some of my favorite shots of the evening (click to enlarge and advance):
