Proving that Durham loves, supports and nurtures its homegrown talent, Cat’s Cradle was packed wall to wall last night for Sylvan Esso‘s CD release show (prior to their upcoming tour).
Spotted were many of Durham’s well known figures (many taking a break from their regular jobs to get out and dance), including the Pie Pushers team, the Carrack’s lovely curator, several Haymakers, a member of Ariely’s Center for Advanced Hindsight, and many musicians, artists, and bon vivants. I heard the Bridge Bus was packed heading out to the show.
Amelia Meath’s partner, Nick Sanborn, expressed his sincere gratitude that despite having lived in Durham just two short years, he’s been embraced, welcomed and loved by our little city. “Mindblowing” “Boggling” “Astonishing” were some of the words the duo used to describe how they felt about the packed house and the love they were getting.
And it’s well deserved. Their sound is awesome, at once having a quality both lightly, ethereally nostalgic and heart-poundingly danceable. Durty, one might even say.
It was a great show. I alternated between dancing and shooting, so I don’t have as many pics as I normally might. Here are a few of my faves:
